The world became a little brighter on October 10, 1946, when Glenda Sue was born to Henry Clyde & Eula Mae (Mills) Corley just north of Lindsey, Ok. Glenda was raised in Oklahoma City and graduated from Capitol Hill High School. While attending business college, she made such an impression on her teacher that she was recommended to a banking business for an outstanding student; she went right to work for them without finishing her degree. She had many adventures in different work fields along her journey including trying the medical field, where she only lasted one day because she had such a compassionate heart that she could not handle witnessing the pain that her little patients had.

Glenda met Wayne on October 7, 1965, at the Oklahoma State Fair. Funny story, they met on the day that she was supposed to marry another guy. After being jilted, Glenda’s cousins did not want her to set around that day being sad. So, they convinced her to go to the fair. Reluctantly she agreed. The girls were walking into the fair as Wayne and his buddies were walking out. The minute Wayne saw Glenda, he knew that she was the one. He jumped the fence and introduced himself. Their night at fair would be the 1st chapter of their love story.

They were married just two and a half months later on December 27th when Wayne convinced her that she needed to call into work with a headache so they could go get married. They, along side of Wayne’s dad and girlfriend, were married in a double ceremony at the courthouse in Purcell, Oklahoma as they said their, “I Do’s.” Many said it would never last, but this December would have been 59 years.

They began their lives together in Wichita Falls, Texas, where Wayne was stationed in the Air Force. They quickly began their family with their 1st child, Clydie arriving in the spring of 1967. Only a couple of years later they welcomed their 2nd child, Johnny. Later they would open their hearts and home to welcome their 3rd child by adoption to Michelle, and Glenda was a 2nd mom to many of her kid friends.

Wayne and Glenda made their home in Healdton, Oklahoma beginning in 1974, owning & operating a number of businesses, OTASCO, Ace Hardware, and The Bent Can Store. She also worked at Ringling State Bank in the mid 80’s. Wayne had the dreams, but Glenda was the backbone. The only thing that Glenda couldn’t do was stay with us forever. She was a “Jill of ALL trades.” You name it; she could do it, and in most cases better than most anyone else. She loved sewing, gardening, genealogy, traveling to the Branson area, driving the back roads looking for rocks, and reminiscing. She was nature loving, kindhearted soul. Glenda, chose to love her Lord and Savior above all else, but loved Wayne, her kids & grands more than anything else on this earth.

Glenda loved going all out on VBS decorations. She was definitely ahead of her time, by going over the top to make VBS an extraordinary adventure for the kids and fellow workers, making a fun and impressionable impact on everyone. After all, NO one had ever built a 6’ waterfall overlooking a bridge with live goldfish in a pond inside a church before. Most (not all) were amazed by her vision & ability to bring the outside inside the church. There is no telling how many souls met her at the gates of heaven, to sing “thank you for giving to the Lord, for I was a life that was changed," with many more to come.

On July 27, 2015, Glenda humbly received the gift of extended life. Through the generous and selfless act of organ donation, a family gifted a complete stranger with more time. Our family is beyond grateful for every extra second that family blessed ours with.

After a long battle of lung disease, Glenda took her 1st breath of Heaven’s fresh air on August 26, 2024, in her home with family gathered around her bedside singing, “In the Garden.”
