With 12 main classes, Baldur's Gate 3 has a ton of options for some phenomenal builds for a variety of play styles. Some of these classes are better suited for support or attacking, but all of them have been built for maximum enjoyment, and their subclasses, spell lists, and range of abilities mean that any Baldur's Gate 3 class can be adapted to suit any kind of play style. Some classes are better than others; for example, with abilities that reset on a short vs long rest, abilities that are more accessible in combat, access to spell lists, or flexibility when it comes to builds.
The good news is, the classes in Baldur's Gate 3 are all so good that none of them can be considered "bad". Every class has at least a few builds that are viable and fun to play. There are, however, still builds that are designed better than others.

With so many armor options available in Baldur's Gate 3, it can be hard to decide what to wear. That said, these are arguably the best combinations.
S-Tier
Bard
One of the most versatile classes in Baldur's Gate 3 is the Bard thanks to their Persuasion proficiency, their Jack of All Trades bonus to all Skill Checks, and their subclasses that expand their combat, spellcasting, or support role. It's because of their versatility, both in and out of combat, that makes Bards a winner and the top class in Baldur's Gate 3.
Paladin
Mostly a combat class augmented by spells, Paladins are great because of their support abilities, the amount of damage they deal, and their roles outside of combat as mediators. Like Bards, Paladins are a versatile Baldur's Gate 3 class and can form the core of any party with their buffs and damage.
Sorcerer
The ability to augment and modify their spells is what sets the Sorcerer apart. Sorcerers can use Sorcery Points to restore spell slots, cast more spells in a turn, cast while Silenced, and a variety of other benefits. Sorcerer subclasses also either add unpredictability to combat with Wild Magic or make their spells incredibly powerful with Draconic Bloodline or Storm Sorcery. Because Sorcerers use Charisma rather than Intelligence as their primary ability score, they can also function well outside of combat for dialogue and Persuasion Checks, placing Sorcerers higher than Wizards.
Cleric
Clerics are possibly the most underrated class in the game despite being versatile and packing a punch with their Channel Divinity feature and powerful spell list. Clerics are incredibly powerful in Baldur's Gate 3 specifically thanks to certain plot events, particularly with the spell Turn Undead, but Spirit Guardians is also a powerhouse, sending Clerics to the top tier of this list.
A Tier
Wizard
The other of the pure spellcasting classes, Wizards have the largest spell list in Baldur's Gate 3 and can learn every spell as long as they have the scroll and gold to learn it. Wizards have a whopping eight subclasses, giving them a wide variety of builds to experiment with. Wizards also get the ability Arcane Recovery, which restores a portion of their spell slots.
Fighter
Multiple hits per Attack round and solid subclasses mean the Fighter is one of the best damage-dealing classes in Baldur's Gate 3. The Fighter's Action Surge, which gives them an extra attack round and resets on a Short Rest, turns them into juggernauts that just keep going.
Monk
Baldur's Gate 3 has revamped the Monk from the tabletop version, and Monks have a similar role as Fighters but use Ki points for extra attacks. Special gear and equipment for unarmed builds are especially helpful for the Monk, and the subclass Way of the Four Elements can be played as a spellcasting hybrid that can cast spells even while Silenced and cannot be Counterspelled.
Rogue
Sneak Attack damage is the bread and butter of the Rogue's build, and with their proficiency in skills that other classes simply ignore, such as Sleight of Hand or Stealth, Rogues are an integral part of the party. Rogues are also viable as stealth classes, allowing single party members to decimate entire enemy parties with the enemy none the wiser.

B Tier
Warlock
Unique in that they've signed something important away to an all-powerful being in exchange for their spellcasting ability, Warlocks are a Charisma class that has the cantrip Eldritch Blast as the core of their build, with many strategies foregoing weapons in favor of it.
Druid
Druids stand out as spellcasters because of their focus on the natural world and their Wild Shape spell. The most powerful of Wild Shape is the Owlbear, which deals great amounts of damage and grants the Druid large amounts of additional hit points. One of the best subclasses for the Druid is the Circle of the Moon, but the Circle of Spores is a fun alternative and allows the Druid to summon zombies and animated spore corpses reminiscent of The Last of Us' Infected.
Barbarian
Despite the power of Rage, Barbarians are hobbled by its cap and the need for a Long Rest to be refreshed, especially at the lower levels. Barbarians do have a massive damage output, but it's difficult to create different builds for Barbarians, especially when there are better damage output fighting classes like Fighter, Monk, and Paladin.
Ranger
The defining features of Rangers include Favored Terrain, Favored Enemy, and the Ranger Spell List. Unfortunately, the Ranger Spell List is very lackluster, with spells that are easily replaced with Feats or other spells, or do minimal damage. Favored Terrain and Favored Enemy also don't have as much impact on gameplay, granting some resistances or proficiencies. The subclasses improve the Ranger, with the Hunter dealing AoE damage and the Gloom Stalker ambushing enemies.
